--- title: "Not Just a Bike. A Childhood Dream. 🧡" date: 2024-10-10 category: "Life · On the road" --- # Not Just a Bike. A Childhood Dream. 🧡 Some dreams aren't about how expensive something is. They're about how long you've wanted it. ![A KTM Duke with orange wheels inside the motorcycle showroom.](https://pranv.xyz/feed/media/duke1-4776bb3eeddbec7d.webp) I don't exactly remember when my obsession with bikes started, but I know it goes way back to my childhood. As a kid, whenever I saw someone riding a beautiful motorcycle, I'd stop and look at it until it disappeared. I used to imagine myself riding one someday, going on long trips, exploring places, and having that freedom of going wherever I wanted. And out of all the bikes, there was something about the KTM Duke that I absolutely loved. I don't know if it was the design, the sound, or just the way it looked on the road. But I knew one thing for sure: **someday, I wanted a Duke of my own.** Back then, it was just a dream. I had no idea when I'd actually get one. Sometimes I'd look at pictures, watch riding videos, or just imagine how amazing it would feel. Years passed. I grew older, life got busier, and there were a hundred other things to think about. But that little dream never really went away. And then, one day, something I'd imagined for years actually happened. **I finally got my KTM Duke 250.** It's difficult to put that feeling into words. You know when you've wanted something for so long that, when you finally have it, you almost can't believe it's yours? That's exactly how I felt. I could actually walk up to it, hold the handlebars, start the engine, and take it wherever I wanted. No more imagining. No more watching someone else ride their dream bike. This one was mine. And honestly, I think that was one of the happiest moments of my life. ![A KTM Duke 250 parked outdoors, decorated with flowers.](https://pranv.xyz/feed/media/duke2-de3c278251c4b8bd.webp) ## The memories that came after The funny thing is, I thought getting the bike would be the best part of the dream. Turns out, it was only the beginning. Since then, I've been on so many road trips with my Duke. I've explored places, travelled on roads I'd never been on before, and collected memories that mean so much more to me than the kilometres on the odometer. Some rides were planned days in advance. Others happened simply because I felt like going somewhere. And that's something I absolutely love about riding. Sometimes I don't even need a destination. I just want to get out, feel the wind, enjoy the road, and forget about everything else for a while. There are days when life feels a little too much. Too many thoughts, too many things happening, too much overthinking. And somehow, a good ride makes everything feel a little lighter. It's just me, my Duke, and the road ahead. No unnecessary noise in my head. Just enjoying the moment. There are bigger bikes, faster bikes, and more expensive bikes out there. But I genuinely don't care. Because this one has a story attached to it. It's something I dreamed about as a little kid, long before I knew what growing up would actually feel like. And now I get to live that dream. Sometimes we get so caught up chasing the next big thing that we forget we're already living moments our younger selves used to wish for. I think about that whenever I look at my Duke. The kid who once stood on the roadside admiring other people's motorcycles now has his own. And every time I take it out for a ride, a little part of that childhood excitement is still there. I hope it never goes away. There are still so many roads I want to ride, so many places I want to explore, and so many memories I haven't made yet. But no matter how many bikes I own in the future, I think my Duke 250 will always have a special place in my heart. Not because it was the most expensive thing I've owned. But because it was one of the first times I got to experience what it feels like when a childhood dream becomes real. > And if I could go back and tell that little boy who used to stare at KTMs passing by that one day we'd actually own one, I think he'd have the biggest smile on his face. We did it, little bro. **We finally got our Duke. 🧡**
